Day 4: The Wheel of Life – Creating Balance and Clarity

The Wheel of Life is a powerful tool for reflection and growth, giving you a bird’s-eye view of where you are in different areas of your life. Today, we’ll use it to identify what’s thriving, what needs attention, and how you can bring more balance into your life moving forward. It’s the Ghost of Christmas present. Even though today is Boxing Day, we’ll leave the decluttering for another day.

Introducing the Wheel of Life

Take a moment to center yourself. Consider doing the reset exercise from Day 1 (spend 2 minutes focusing on physical sensations, like your breath, or touching the palm of your hand).

Set an intention for today:

I honor where I am in this moment, recognizing both my strengths and the areas that need my care. Every journey starts by knowing where you are. I release judgment. I acknowledge where I stand today with blameless discernment.

The Wheel of Life consists of key areas that together create a fulfilling, balanced life. These categories often include:

- Health

- Finances

- Career/Business

- Relationships

- Personal Growth

- Fun/Recreation

- Environment

- Contribution/Spirituality

Any categories can be split as well. For example Health could be Diet, Physical Health, Mental health.

Activity: Draw a large circle and divide it into 8 (or however many you need) sections (like a pizza) and add concentric circles like a bullseye. There are lots of examples on the internet, it may be easier to print one off.

Label each section with one of these areas. Rate each area on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the least satisfied and 10 being fully satisfied and colour in your “pizza slice” up to that number.

Look at your Wheel of Life. Are there areas where the “spokes” feel uneven or out of balance? This is normal—life rarely feels perfectly balanced. The key is awareness.

Journal Prompts

1) For each section look at the number you are at and as yourself why it isn’t lower.  I.e. if my health is at a 6, I wonder what makes it a 6 – why isn’t it a 5 or 4? What is present that makes it a 6?

• Now ask why it isn’t higher. i.e What is missing for it to be a 7 or 8?

2) What areas of my life feel strongest right now? Why?

   - What habits, people, or activities are supporting this strength?

3)  What areas feel weakest? Why?

   - Are there actions, beliefs, or patterns holding me back here?  (I don’t have time, I don’t know how, I don’t enjoy it, time just seems to get away from me, etc)

   - Are there areas where I want to grow but haven’t prioritized?

4) What surprises me about this reflection?

• Are there areas I’ve been neglecting but didn’t realize?

5) How does the balance in my life feel?

• Are there areas where I’m overcommitted or spreading myself too thin?

As you close the day, reflect on your Wheel of Life and the insights you’ve gained.

Acknowledging the Present Moment

Take time to sit with your reflections. No judgment—just acknowledgment and blameless discernment. Each area tells a story about where you’ve focused your energy and where there’s potential for care and attention.

We use the NLP Presupposition that we are doing the best we can with the resources available to us in any given moment. Know that if you could have don’t better you would.

Affirmation:

"I honor where I am in this moment, recognizing both my strengths and the areas that need my care. I choose to approach myself with compassion and curiosity."
